MENTAL HEALTH , these two words ae given the most emphasis in the world of healthcare after physical fitness because it is inclusive of an individual's emotional, psychological and social well-being. it affects how we think, feel and act

Mental health is still stigmatized and this is more so in the case of children

Generally, parents think that their child can't be depressed or anxious stating "they're so young, what do they have to be depressed about? we were just happy when we were that young

A child with an anxiety disorder may experience fear, nervousness, & shyness, and they start to avoid places and activities consistently

According to the 2015 Child mind institute Children's Mental Health Report, "anxiety and depression are treatable, but 80 percent of kid with diagnosable anxiety disorder and 60 percent of kids with diagnosable depression are not getting treatment".

At times, parents tend to miss out on the mental health signs & problems in children and adolescents which can help them develop better life skills and live a well-adapted life.

"Childhood experiences, memories and feelings matter"

A child has 5 basic emotional needs that help him/her become a mentally and emotionally healthy child

    • Need to feel they are loved
    • Need to feel they included and important
    • Need to feel safe and secure
    • Need to feel accepted
    • Need to feel like they are are respected

According to a report by Child Adolescent Mental Health in india context (2017) "Indian child undergoes multidimensional exploitation inficted both at home and work-place; economically, sexually, personally and educationally. this results in poor identity and self-worth of the child."
